  To the Student Community,

Given the University's current need to utilize remote learning options, all enrolled UCLA students have been given access to use UCLA's license to Zoom, a tool that provides you access to video conferencing and chat features for participation in curricular and co-curricular activities. Each student can create a UCLA Zoom account at (https://ucla.zoom.us) and download the Zoom application. For up-to-date security, privacy and data protection information, guidance and resources visit the Center for Advancement of Teaching's "Student Resources for Remote learning" resource. Highlights that we want to call your attention to:
  • The Student Conduct Code applies to all UCLA students, even in the remote learning environment. The Code prohibits, among other things, Academic Dishonesty, Computer Misuse, Harassment, Disruption, Disorderly Behavior, and violations of Expectations of Privacy.
  • If you witness or experience an incident of bias, know that resources exist to support you. If such an incident occurs while you are host of a meeting, end the meeting immediately to prevent further escalation. Report an incident of bias here: https://www.deanofstudents.ucla.edu/Report-an-Incident-of-BIAS.
As a participant in a Zoom session:
  • You are prohibited from recording the session, including audio, video, or chat and regardless of means (e.g., screen capture, photographing, copying and pasting). Only a session host may record a session.
  • Conduct yourself in the same manner as if in an in-person setting. You should be properly attired and make sure not gesture inappropriately during a session. Avoid distracting activities while engaged in the video session, such as moving from room to room or using the restroom.
  • For questions realted to accomdations in the academic environment (ex. Note-taking or testing), please contact the Center for Acessible Education. For questions related to accomdations in non-academic settings (such as student group meetings, and study groups), please contact the host of the meeting to share your accessibility needs.
If you are hosting a Zoom session:
  • Recording Zoom meetings without the consent of all participants is prohibited, and may be a violation of the Student Conduct Code. Be mindful of the privacy of event attendees and obtain express consent before recording meetings or events.
  • Recording a Zoom session may be required to provide an accommodation for participants with disabilities. If you are a TA, you are subject to the same requirements given in Section C of https://www.adminvc.ucla.edu/covid-19/academic-continuity/protecting-privacy-and-data-during-remote-working-and-using-zoom
  • Consider whether only you as the host needs to be visible in order to minimize bandwidth usage, and instruct participants not to enable their video if not needed. A single video stream can ease Internet bandwidth for all participants.
  • If an unauthorized person appears, or a participant engages in disruptive conduct, immediately remove the individual from the meeting.
If you need technical support visit the UCLA IT Support Center.
