Create your own climate justice call to action at Art Lab, the Hammer's drop-in artmaking program for visitors of all ages. Whether you are looking for a kid-friendly project or for something artful to do after spending time in the galleries, drop by Art Lab for a hands-on, creative activity inspired by artworks in Breath(e): Towards Climate and Social Justice. This program is for anyone—at any age or skill level—who wants to experiment with artmaking. Facilitated by Hammer educators. Children must be accompanied by guardians at all times. Free collaborative workshops, presented with 826LA, combine writing with creative activities for groups of up to 20 students. Recommended for ages 8–14. Reservations encouraged. Each workshop can accommodate up to 20 participants, with all materials provided by the instructors. Availability is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis, with a sign-up sheet available in the museum lobby starting one hour before the program. Learn the basics of the Japanese art of bonsai design in this hands-on tree workshop with Bonsai Saikei master Jordan Farar. Farar will briefly cover the history of bonsai, discuss what type of trees are ideal for this art form, and explain how to care for bonsai plants. Participants will also start trimming and styling their own small trees. Location: Hammer Museum

Scholarly identity is about more than the articles you publish or the projects you share online with your research communities. Your scholarly identity includes the many parts of your history and engagement as a researcher, including your education, employment, awards, collaborators and more—and it exists whether you are the one curating it or not. Taking control of your scholarly identity supports your visibility, credibility and transparency as a researcher and plays a crucial role in open scholarly communication. This workshop will cover the importance and impact of creating and managing your scholarly identity with tools like ORCID and Google Scholar, as well as how these tools connect with other network and profile platforms.
